Hi there,

Recently my mother visited your shop while she was traveling in South Africa. Apparently I am very difficult to shop for but as a woman who fishes I am sure that I must be the easiest person in the world to please with presents. Anyway her present was a keyring style reel with a measuring tape, perhaps not a typical African souvenir but I love it and it suits me.

Most of all though it was just so lovely to hear that you read the NZ Troutfisher magazine, for whom I write. And also that you were knowledgeable of sport fly-fishing. Unfortunately I was unable to fish in the last Commonwealths and missed meeting the South African ladies team, and your current men, but if I work hard and keep qualifying thats something I have to look forward to in the future. I had so enjoyed the company of your team at the Commonwealths in Hawkes bay a few years ago.

It makes my day that we have such a wonderful global community of fly fishing fanatics.
And so, I wish you tight lines, screaming reels, and a wonderful time out fishing.

Kind regards,
Belinda.

Hi Folks,
Thanks so much for the support. I'll give the switch a go when I get home this evening. It makes sense thinking back on my attempt to figure it out ;)
Will let you know once it gets here and thanks for the freebee. Much appreciated.
Keep well.

Message: Hello there. I was in your shop recently and bought an explorer reel from you. You had lots of advice including how to tie a dropper fly. Pleased to tell you it worked. A question please - Do you recommend waterproofing dry flie and if so what should I get? Many thanks Paul Carpenter

Subject: Free advice - compensation.

Hi John,

My son and I were in your shop the other day for some advice and you indicated that the only compensation you desired was a picture of his first fish.

Well please find attached.

He unfortunately didn't catch it on the fly you gave him, but chuffed none the less...

Thanks again for the kind advice - will always use your store for any of my angling requirements!

Regards James & Ethan.

Hi John, Village Angler,

First of all, thank you for giving me the yellow and orange fly about a month ago when I was staying at Lakenvlei. I caught nothing whilst staying there....

But, I spent last weekend in Dullstroom and fished at the town dam, as requested here is a pic of the Rainbow that I caught with the fly that you gave me. That Saturday afternoon I went and bought a few more of those flies.

Sunday morning I then caught two rainbows on the yellow and orange fly and two more rainbows on a Wooly Bugger.

5 fish in total.

Cheers,
Gavin

Subject: Fish caught!

Hi there!

Please see photo attached. These fish were caught by grandson, Alex Van Der Lith and a little assistance from the fly you so kindly gave him. You asked him to mail a photo of the fish he caught with your fly...so here it is!! He's been asking to send the photo for a while, but haven't got around to doing it.

Kindest regards

Hi – here are photos of 2 separate catches of rainbow trout by my son Chad at Walkersons Estate – within 10 minutes of each other – the Saturday afternoon that we bought the Explorer rod and equipment from your shop!
These fish were caught at about 4pm, using the new rod and glasses and floating line we got from your shop – using the great advice on techniques that you gave us. The only different thing was that these two fish were caught using a red-eye damsel (instead of a white death). Chad also had a chance to use the ‘Priest’ that we bought.
Thanks again for the wonderful advice, it certainly worked – Chad was so worked up he did not want to go home until he caught a third, and it was only after much convincing that he finally went. That night the Walkersons kitchen cooked the fish for us to eat as well!
Looking forward to seeing Chad on ‘the wall’ next time we are in Dullstroom -
Regards
Richard

Hi John
My family and I were in your store on the weekend where you kindly gave my son and daughter free flies:-) Thank you so much for the flies as when we got back to Valley of the Rainbow (the place we stayed for the long weekend), we were quick to attach our new flies and hit the dams!! My daughter, Jordyn, age 10, managed to catch a nice sized fish (sorry, not sure exactly what it is) and as you had said we must mail you a picture...please find it attached:-) My daughter has told her story to everyone who will listen but most importantly, she would love a spot on your wall:-))) Thank you so much for your advice, your passion and your generosity. We hope to be back soon!!

Kindest regards

Hi Jenny,

You probably don’t remember me but I was in the shop on Friday and you assisted with advice and some flies. Thanks for the great advice and experience in your shop. It all paid off when I caught a rainbow on Friday afternoon, my first trout fish caught.
Thanks and regards,

Terry

Comments : Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. My young friend Ryan and I were at your shop a couple weeks ago, and both you and your daughter were most helpful. We went straight back to Highlands Giants, where we were staying, and Ryan promptly caught his first trout using the flies and advice that you gave him. He's hooked!
