This is by far the most-favoured bank for most anglers (although not all would agree the most rewarding or productive!). Like most dam walls, it is generally the easiest to fish - nothing behind and dropping off to deep water in front for most of the wall. Depths of 5 meters plus are within casting distance of most anglers - and this is where the fish will often be once the sun is up or when flies are not hatching elsewhere on the surface. Sinking and intermediate lines with whatever lure or nymph takes your fancy and hunt for the fish - they often hold in small shoals in the better feeding spots. Again, in the evening when flies start to hatch, the wall can "come alive" and then it's time to switch to dry flies or hatching imitations in the surface film. If possible, stay down and keep your profile low!

Jansens Dam was re-built by the DFFA in 2005 to accommodate the Club following the loss of the Town Dam lease. The total area is around 5 hectares, but about one third is shallow and heavily weeded (the Northern inlet), leaving the dam wall and two stretches of natural bank to explore. These banks can accommodate up to around 20 anglers - and tubing is allowed, but limited to 2 tubes at any time. The dam is regularly stocked with rainbows and browns - and fish grow quickly, there being plenty of natural food. Catch and release is encouraged, and fish over 2kgs are caught often enough to make this a very rewarding water for the skilful angler.
Perhaps the best structured stretch of bank - it extends from the area directly in front of the Club Hut and runs north towards the island and inlet. Most of this bank has high-rising outcrops and natural vegetation behind the angler - and a high back cast (steeple cast) is necessary. But there are some very good drop-offs and holes within

easy casting distance and this is the place to be in the evening, when the early risers move in to mop up the hatching midges and baetis mayflies. Floating and intermediate lines with long leaders will reap dividends.
This bank is generally shallow for it's entire length and towards the end of Summer can be heavily weeded in places. But this is where the best food life is, and for the imitative angler who is prepared to stalk the feeding fish, this bank can be extremely rewarding - some of the bigger fish are often caught from this bank. Three platforms have been provided to assist the angler who would like to get over the weed and reach deeper water, but the downside is that fishing from

these platforms will generally spook fish feeding in the margins! Very productive in the evening and early morning - and ideal for the wading angler. Sub-surface nymphs work here.

Finally, more adventurous anglers may wish to find out for themselves what the Croc River and Northern inlet have to offer - but be prepared for a surprise or two!
